The speech (for class 4)
Assalam-o-Alaikum, respected Principal, honourable teachers and my dear friends!
My name is ____ and I study in class 4. Today, on Iqbal Day, I will tell you about Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the Poet of the East.
Allama Iqbal was born on 9 November 1877 in the city of Sialkot. He studied in Lahore, and then went to England and Germany for higher education. But he is famous not for his degrees — he is famous for his thoughts.
Iqbal taught us the lesson of Khudi. Khudi means to know yourself and believe in your own power. He said that a student should be like the Shaheen, the falcon, which flies high, makes no nest, and faces every storm bravely.
It was Iqbal who first dreamed of a separate homeland for the Muslims of this land. In 1930, at Allahabad, he presented this idea — and in 1947, his dream became Pakistan.
Dear friends, the best way to honour Iqbal is to follow his message: read more, work hard, and never stop flying high.
I will end with his famous words: "Sitaaron se aage jahaan aur bhi hain" — there are worlds beyond the stars.
Thank you! Pakistan Zindabad!
Words your teacher may ask about
Khudi — knowing yourself and trusting your own ability. Shaheen — the falcon, Iqbal's example of a brave student who flies high. Allahabad Address (1930) — the famous speech in which Iqbal presented the idea of a separate homeland, which later became Pakistan. If you can explain these three in one line each, you know this speech properly.
How to deliver it well
Speak a little slower than feels natural — 215 words should take the full 2 minutes. Pause for one breath after the Khudi paragraph; it is the heart of the speech. Practise the Urdu line at the end on its own, several times, until it flows without thinking. And keep your hands still and your eyes on the audience at the end of each paragraph.
