Iqbal Day speech in Urdu: the short answer

Below are two complete, ready-to-deliver Iqbal Day speeches in Urdu, written for 9 November school and college functions. The first is a full speech of about 3 minutes for students, given in proper Urdu script and then again in Roman Urdu so you can practise reading it either way. The second is a short, easy speech for young children. Every speech on this page is an original composition, so you can deliver it word for word without copying anyone else's work. If your function needs an English speech instead, use the companion guide: Iqbal Day Speech in English.

When is Iqbal Day 2026? Iqbal Day falls on Monday, 9 November 2026, and it is an official public holiday in Pakistan — schools, colleges and offices are closed. That is why most schools hold their Iqbal Day function a few days early, usually in the first week of November, and why speech practice starts in late October.

Print the speech, mark the couplets, and practise from the paper — it is far easier than reading from a phone on stage.

The same speech in Roman Urdu

Many students understand Urdu best in Roman script while practising. Here is exactly the same speech in Roman Urdu — use whichever version lets you memorise it faster, then deliver it in your own natural voice.

Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Raheem.

Muaziz Principal Sahib, qabil-e-ehtiram asatiza karam, judges sahiban, aur mere aziz sathiyo — Assalam-o-Alaikum!

Aaj hum sab yahan 9 November ko us azeem shakhsiyat ki yaad mein jama huye hain jinhon ne soyi hui qaum ko jagaya, jinhon ne apni shairi se mayoos dilon mein umeed ka chiragh roshan kiya — main baat kar raha hoon Shair-e-Mashriq, Hakeem-ul-Ummat, Musawwir-e-Pakistan, Allama Muhammad Iqbal ki.

Allama Iqbal 9 November 1877 ko Sialkot mein paida huye. Un ke walid Sheikh Noor Muhammad aur walida Imam Bibi nihayat deendar aur saada zindagi guzaarne wale log the.

Mere doston! Iqbal ka sab se bara pegham "Khudi" hai. Khudi ka matlab hai: apne aap ko pehchano, apni salahiyaton par yaqeen rakho, aur apni qismat khud likhne ka hosla paida karo. Iqbal farmate hain:

Khudi ko kar buland itna ke har taqdeer se pehle
Khuda bande se khud pooche, bata teri raza kya hai

Iqbal ne naujawan ko "Shaheen" kaha — wo parinda jo buland udta hai, jo aashiyana nahi banata, jo mushkil se nahi ghabrata. Unhon ne farmaya:

Tu Shaheen hai, parwaz hai kaam tera
Tere saamne aasmaan aur bhi hain

Yehi wo Iqbal hai jinhon ne 1930 mein Allahabad ke khutbe mein ek alag watan ka tasavvur pesh kiya — wo khwab jo 1947 mein Pakistan ki soorat mein haqeeqat bana. Isi liye hum unhein Pakistan ka khwab dekhne wala kehte hain.

Aakhir mein mera pegham sirf itna hai: Iqbal ko sirf kitabon mein mat rakho, un ke pegham ko apni zindagi mein utaaro. Parho, mehnat karo, apni Khudi ko buland karo — kyunki Pakistan ka mustaqbil hum naujawanon ke haathon mein hai.

Sitaron se aage jahan aur bhi hain
Abhi ishq ke imtihan aur bhi hain

Shukriya! Pakistan Zindabad!

Short Iqbal Day speech in Urdu for kids (about 1 minute)

Young children need short sentences, a slow pace and only two or three facts to remember: Iqbal was born on 9 November in Sialkot, he wrote poetry that woke up a nation, and his famous prayer "Lab pe aati hai dua" is sung in schools to this day. This short speech is built on exactly those points.

The same kids' speech in Roman Urdu: Bismillah-ir-Rahman-ir-Raheem. Muaziz asatiza karam aur mere pyare doston, Assalam-o-Alaikum! Mera naam ____ hai aur main class ____ mein parhta/parhti hoon. Aaj main aap ko Allama Iqbal ke baare mein bataoon ga/gi. Allama Iqbal 9 November ko Sialkot mein paida huye. Wo bohat bare shair the. Un ki mashhoor dua "Lab pe aati hai dua ban ke tamanna meri" hum roz school mein parhte hain. Iqbal ne kaha tha ke bachche parhein aur aage barhein, kyunki parhna hi kamyabi ka raasta hai. Humein Iqbal ki tarah mehnat karni chahiye aur apne mulk Pakistan se mohabbat karni chahiye. Shukriya! Pakistan Zindabad!

Famous Iqbal couplets to open or close your speech

A speech that opens with a couplet sounds confident from the first line. These are Allama Iqbal's own published verses — the three most used at Iqbal Day functions, with a one-line meaning so you also know what you are saying:

Meaning: Raise yourself so high that before every decree of fate, God Himself asks the man what his will is. The most famous opening couplet of all.

Meaning: There are worlds beyond the stars, and more tests of passion still to come. Perfect for the closing lines — it tells the audience not to stop here.

Meaning: The destiny of nations is in the hands of individuals; every person is a star in the nation's fate. A strong couplet for the middle of a speech, when you turn from Iqbal's life to the audience's duty.

How long should an Iqbal Day speech be?

For a school competition, the sweet spot is 2 to 4 minutes — roughly 250 to 500 spoken words in Urdu, which is slower per word than English. The main speech above takes about 3 minutes at a calm pace. Judges reward a clear opening couplet, one idea developed properly (Khudi, or the dream of Pakistan — not both rushed), and a confident close. If your school gives a 2-minute limit, cut the biography paragraph, keep the Khudi and Shaheen couplets, and the speech still stands on its own.

Frequently asked questions

When is Iqbal Day in 2026? Monday, 9 November 2026 — the 149th birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, who was born on 9 November 1877 in Sialkot.

Is Iqbal Day a public holiday in Pakistan? Yes. Iqbal Day is on the federal government's official public holiday list for 2026, so schools, colleges, government offices and most businesses are closed on Monday 9 November. (Between 2015 and 2021 it was only an observance, which is why older pages sometimes say otherwise — it was restored as a full public holiday in 2022.)

Why do schools hold Iqbal Day functions before 9 November? Because 9 November itself is the holiday. Schools celebrate during the last working days before it — in 2026, mostly in the week of 2–6 November — with speech competitions, tableaus and recitations of Iqbal's poetry, including the children's prayer "Lab pe aati hai dua".

What is the difference between the Urdu script and Roman Urdu speech? Nothing in content — they are the same words. The Urdu script version is the proper written form to submit to a teacher or print; the Roman Urdu version is simply easier for many students to read while memorising.

Can I use these speeches in my school function? Yes. Both speeches were written for this page in 2026 and are free for any student, teacher or school to deliver, print and share. Changing the greeting line with your name and class is all you need to do.

Need the English version instead? Read the Iqbal Day speech in English — it has a 2-minute speech for students, a 1-minute speech for kids, and simple tips for delivering it well. And if you ever need to move text between Urdu and Roman Urdu, the free Roman Urdu Converter on ToolFoxHub does it in the browser, with nothing uploaded.
