About this countdown

The Ramadan Countdown 2027 counts down, second by second, to the first Roza of Ramadan 2027 in Pakistan — expected on Tuesday, February 9, 2027. Open the page and the numbers start ticking on their own: days, hours, minutes and seconds, updating every second for as long as the page stays open. The counter counts down to midnight at the start of February 9, local time. Once Ramadan begins, the same page switches automatically: it shows which Roza day you are on and starts counting down to Eid ul-Fitr instead.

One honest note, stated up front: the February 9 date is expected, not officially announced. In Pakistan the final word belongs to the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which announces the moon sighting on the evening of February 7, 2027 (Chand Raat, 29 Sha'ban). Worldwide, the first fast is expected a day earlier, on Monday, February 8, 2027, following the Umm al-Qura calendar used in Saudi Arabia. Pakistan has often begun a day later than the Gulf, which is why this page counts to February 9 as its default and shows February 8 alongside it. If the Committee announces a different date, the page will be updated to match.

Ramadan moves about 10–11 days earlier every year on the solar calendar, because the Islamic calendar follows the moon. That is why Ramadan 2027 falls in the short days of February and March, and why Ramadan 2028 is already expected in late January.

Why Pakistan usually starts a day later

The Islamic month begins with the sighting of the new crescent moon, and different countries sight it on different evenings. Saudi Arabia follows the Umm al-Qura calendar, which predicts the sighting in advance, so its dates are usually known early. Pakistan relies on physical moon sighting through the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which meets on the 29th of each Islamic month and announces the result the same evening. When the moon is sighted in the Gulf but not yet visible over Pakistan, Pakistan starts a day later — the pattern seen in most recent years, and the reason this page treats February 9 as the expected Pakistani date while February 8 is the expected worldwide date.

The three Ashras of Ramadan

Ramadan is traditionally divided into three parts of ten days each, called Ashras. The first Ashra (days 1–10) is the Ashra of Rahmah (mercy), the second Ashra (days 11–20) is the Ashra of Maghfirah (forgiveness), and the third Ashra (days 21–30) is the Ashra of Najah (salvation from the Fire). Each Ashra has its own well-known dua, and the third Ashra contains the last ten nights, in which Shab-e-Qadr — the Night of Decree, better than a thousand months — is sought, most commonly on the 27th night.

How long will the fasts be in 2027?

Because Ramadan 2027 falls in February and March, the fasts are short by Pakistani standards. In Lahore the fast is about 12 hours 15 minutes on the first day and grows to about 13 hours 6 minutes by the last day; Karachi's fasts run a little longer, starting near 12 hours 50 minutes; Gujranwala is close to Lahore, about 12 hours 14 minutes rising to 13 hours 6 minutes. These are winter fasts — far shorter than the 15-plus-hour fasts of a summer Ramadan — which is one reason the 2027 dates are widely looked up.

Sehri and Iftar times: why this page does not list them

Sehri and Iftar times change from city to city — even neighbouring cities differ by a few minutes — and they depend on the calculation method your local mosque follows. Publishing one timetable and calling it Pakistan's would give wrong times to most readers, and wrong religious times are a serious accuracy problem, not a small one. So this page deliberately does not print a timetable. For your city's exact Sehri and Iftar times, follow your local mosque's timetable or your city's official Ramadan calendar, which is built for your exact location.
