About URL Encoder & Decoder
URLs can only safely contain letters, numbers and a few symbols. Everything else - spaces, ampersands, question marks, non-English letters - must be percent-encoded, where each special character becomes a % followed by two hex digits. This page encodes and decodes that format instantly.
Encoding is used for query strings, form data and links that carry user input. Decoding turns an encoded link back into readable text, which is handy when debugging a long URL you received.
How to use it
- Paste your URL or text.
- Press Encode to percent-encode it, or Decode to turn percent codes back into characters.
- Copy the result.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between encode and decode?
Encode turns special characters into percent codes (a space becomes %20). Decode does the reverse, turning %20 back into a space.
Why does my link break when it has a space or & in it?
Because spaces and & have special meaning inside URLs. Encoding them first keeps the link intact when it is shared or submitted.
Why does decoding fail sometimes?
Usually because of an incomplete percent code, like a % at the end with no two hex digits after it. Fix the code and try again.
Is my input uploaded?
No. Encoding and decoding run entirely in your browser.
