About this converter

JPG is the most common photo format on the web, but it is lossy — every save throws away a little detail — and it cannot store transparency. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which makes it the better choice for editing, logos, graphics and any image you plan to save more than once. This converter turns a JPG into a PNG in your browser, in seconds, without uploading anything.

How to use it

  1. Choose a JPG image. Click the file button and pick a .jpg or .jpeg file from your device.
  2. Press Convert to PNG. The image is redrawn as a PNG on the spot.
  3. Download the PNG. The file keeps its original name and size in pixels, with a .png extension.

Frequently asked questions

Will converting JPG to PNG lose quality?

No further quality is lost in the conversion itself, because PNG is lossless. But a JPG has already lost some detail when it was first saved as a JPG, and converting it cannot bring that detail back. Think of it as freezing the quality where it is, not improving it.

Does the PNG keep transparency?

PNG supports transparency, but a JPG has no transparency to preserve — every pixel in a JPG is fully opaque. So the converted PNG will be fully opaque too, exactly like the original photo.

Why is the PNG file bigger than the JPG?

Because PNG does not throw data away the way JPG does. For photos, PNG files are usually several times larger. If file size matters more than editing quality, convert the other way instead with the PNG to JPG Converter.

Is this converter free and private?

Yes — like every tool on ToolFoxHub, it is free with no sign-up, and your image never leaves your device. The conversion runs entirely in your browser.
