About this gold value calculator

If you buy or sell gold in Pakistan, every price starts from the same two facts: how much your gold weighs, and today's rate per tola. This calculator takes both and gives you the full picture — your weight in every unit (tola, masha, ratti, grams, kilograms and troy ounces) and the value in PKR for the karat you actually hold. It works for bridal sets, coins, bars and old jewellery alike, and it works without any live price feed: you type in today's rate from your local Sarafa market or jeweller, so the result can never go stale the way a fixed-rate page does. Everything runs in your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored.

How to use it

  1. Enter the weight. Either type one amount and pick its unit (tola, masha, ratti, grams, kilograms or troy ounces), or switch to jeweller style and enter tola + masha + ratti together — the way a bill is usually written.
  2. Add today's 24K rate per tola (optional). If you leave it blank, you still get the full weight conversion; add the rate and you also get the value.
  3. Pick the karat. Most jewellery in Pakistan is 22K; bars and coins are usually 24K. The calculator adjusts the value to the pure-gold share of your karat.
  4. Adjust for selling, if needed. If you are selling, add the jeweller's deduction percentage to see the buy-back estimate. Making charges can be added on top for a buying estimate.
  5. Press Calculate. You get the weight in all units and the value breakdown in PKR, including the lakh/crore figure.

Tola, masha and ratti: the conversion table

Pakistan's gold trade still quotes in tola, and the smaller units follow from it exactly. The standard tola is 11.6638 grams (180 troy grains, fixed as the British-Indian standard in 1833 and still used by Pakistani jewellers today; most shops round it to 11.66 g).

UnitGramsIn tola
1 tola11.6638 g1
1 masha0.9720 g1/12 tola
1 ratti0.1215 g1/96 tola
1 kilogram1000 g85.735 tola
1 troy ounce31.1035 g2.667 tola

So 12 masha make 1 tola, 8 ratti make 1 masha, and 96 ratti make 1 tola. A quick check: 5 tola is 58.32 grams, and 10 grams is about 0.857 tola — slightly less than a tola, which is why “10 gram” prices always look lower than tola prices.

How karat changes the value (not the weight)

Karat measures purity, not weight. A 2-tola bangle weighs 2 tola whether it is 24K or 18K — what changes is how much of that weight is pure gold, and therefore what it is worth at the 24K rate.

KaratPure gold shareValue factor
24K99.9%Full rate
22K91.7%22 ÷ 24 of the rate
21K87.5%21 ÷ 24 of the rate
18K75.0%18 ÷ 24 of the rate

Worked example: 3 tola of 21K jewellery at a 24K rate of Rs 420,000 per tola. The 24K value is 3 × 420,000 = Rs 1,260,000. The 21K value is 1,260,000 × 21 ÷ 24 = Rs 1,102,500. If the jeweller deducts 2% on buy-back, the selling estimate is 1,102,500 × 0.98 = Rs 1,080,450. Making charges, if any were paid when buying, are not part of the resale value.

Buying vs selling: what to watch

When you buy, the bill is roughly: gold value + making charges + any shop margin. When you sell, the jeweller pays for the gold content only — making charges are not refunded, and a deduction may apply for impurities, stones and wear. That is why the selling price is always below the buying price for the same piece, and why this calculator keeps the two cases separate: use the deduction field for selling estimates and the making-charges field for buying estimates, and treat both as estimates to confirm with your jeweller before any deal.

Frequently asked questions

How many grams are in 1 tola?

1 tola is 11.6638 grams (commonly rounded to 11.664 g or 11.66 g). It equals 12 masha and 96 ratti.

How many masha are in 1 tola?

12 masha. And 1 masha equals 8 ratti, so 1 tola equals 96 ratti.

Does karat change the weight of gold?

No. Karat is purity, not weight. A 2-tola piece weighs 2 tola at any karat; karat only changes how much of that weight is pure gold and therefore what it is worth.

Why does this calculator ask me to enter the rate?

Because gold rates change every day. A calculator with a fixed built-in rate goes out of date within a day. Entering today's rate from your local market keeps the answer correct, and it means this page never needs a live price feed.

Are making charges refunded when I sell?

No. Making charges pay for the work of turning gold into jewellery, and they are not part of the resale value. A jeweller buying back your piece pays for the gold content, minus any deduction for impurities, stones and wear.
